Getting Ready for Christmas

Today, Emery helped me wrap some Christmas gifts and took some photos by the Christmas tree.  Here are some of my favorites:

Merry Christmas!

Super excited to help Mommy wrap presents.

Checking out big sister Riley...

Checking out the ornaments on the tree -- Riley is showing Emery her dog-bone shaped ornament.

Next year, she'll be grabbing this ornament off the tree.

Starting to get tired of all the photos

This one was blurry, but I loved her smile here.

Favorite Things

Christmas is one week away and I can't wait to celebrate with our baby girl.  Although she won't remember her 1st Christmas, Neil and I will surely never forget it.  We've got a few gifts few her and will start some new family traditions with her this year too, I hope.  When looking at potential Christmas gifts for our 4 month old, I started thinking about some of the items that have been Emery's favorites over the last few months. In no particular order, here are a few of her favorite things:

Her jogger stroller system -- a gift from Neil's parents -- is THE best. It's a jogger stroller that her infant carrier attaches to perfectly. We use it ALL the time and love it. An added bonus? It can be used for children up to 50 lbs.

Baby Swing -- We used this on a daily basis during Emery's first two months and still use it regularly.  It's a wonderful swing -- very soft and cozy, plus it plays music and/or nature sounds, has a cute mobile and mirror too.  Emery loves to check out her cute face in the mirror and falls fast asleep when the swing is rocking her back and forth.

(Dog and adorable baby not included with the swing)

Mobile -- Neil and I have said several times that this is the best $40 we've ever spent.  We had a wind-up mobile that didn't really work all that well. It was cute, but it just didn't do the job. Then, we found this mobile and, ever since, it has been sweet dreams for Emery (and us).  She is absolutely mesmorized by the images projected on the canopy of the mobile and the music is so calming.  Bonus -- When she outgrows the traditional "mobile" part, it can be removed and the images can be projected above her crib on the ceiling as she continues to listen to the sweet music.  Extra bonus -- It comes with a remote, so if needed, you can re-set the music without disturbing baby.  Seriously, if you have a little one in the house, I can't imagine how you'd survive without this mobile.

Pacifier clip -- I started using this on a daily basis after we kept losing her pacifers and she began spitting them out of her mouth with a quite impressive projectile force.  Emery  uses the stylish chocolate brown/pink polka dot one from Bella Tuno every day and it helps keep her pacifier nearby (and not on the floor).

Halo Sleep Sack -- Neil and I were big swaddlers during Emery's first few weeks. Neil got to be such an expert swaddler (he could turn her into a baby burrito in seconds) that he could easily take on the best swaddlers and win hands down.  But, as Emery got a little bigger and learned how to wiggle her arms and legs out from the swaddler, we switched to the Halo Sleep Sack. She has the pretty pink dot one that we affectionately call her "baby sleeping bag."  It's great because it keeps her warm at night and we don't have use blankets or anything like that.

I can't say enough good things about the JJ Cole Bundle Me -- wish I had invented this!  Emery used the Bundle Me Lite in the fall -- a light blanket-like covering that fits on her car seat and eliminates the need for extra blankets that can easily fall off the car seat.  Now that it's colder, she has switched to the Original Bundle Me. I'm telling you, it has the softest, warmest fleece lining that she absolutely loves.  It fits easily on her car seat and zips up on the sides so that she can stay warm and cozy as we travel place to place. I highly recommend this product.

(Emery is enjoying the Bundle Me Lite in this photo)

Bumbo seat -- another cool invention.  Emery uses this seat every single day, and, of course, she has the pink one.  She loves to be able to sit up and explore the world around her.  Plus, it allows us to keep her safely near us as we cook dinner, get ready in the morning, etc.  A great gift for any new parent!

These are just a few of Emery's favorite things.  What are yours?

There's No Place Like Bermuda*

Have I mentioned that Bermuda is one of my most favorite places on earth? Really, I can't imagine a more perfect spot -- just take a 2 1/2 hour flight from Charlotte and you're in paradise.  Pink sand beaches, crystal clear water, friendly people with cool British accents, and much, much more. I've been there twice -- and I can't wait to go back. Apparently I am not the only one who is counting the days until they can travel to Bermuda again. For the 15th straight year, Conde' Nast readers have chosen Bermuda as the best island in the Carribbean. A well deserved honor. And now, in the middle of this it's-been-raining-so-much-that-I-forgot-what-the-sun-and-a-clear-blue-sky-looks-like weather, here are some pictures** (from our last trip) that will have to tide me over until I can get back there again...

*This post has absolutely nothing to do with the Christmas season, but I received an e-mail today from the Bermuda Dept. of Tourism (I signed up for their e-mail list) and just couldn't resist thinking about how nice it would be to sink my toes in the pink sands of Bermuda. Clearly, their marketing efforts are having the desired effect on me.

**I recently discovered how to make collages with Picasa -- so fun and so easy to do -- which explains why there is suddenly an overabundance of collages on this blog...

It's (Finally) Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Christmas is my favorite time of the year.  I love the decorations, the lights, the music, the gift-giving, the beautiful candlelight Christmas Eve service at our church, spending time with family, and of course, decorating the house and our Christmas tree. I've had great dreams about Emery's first Christmas -- of course that was before she was born and before I fully understood what little bit of free time I would have! Instead, it's now a mere two weeks until Christmas and Neil and I just got around to decorating the Christmas tree. Sure, we've had the tree up for a few days now, but haven't gotten around to decorating it until today. And although I hate that we haven't had the house decorated until today, I do feel like I have somewhat of an excuse. I was sick last week, which normally would have been the time that we would have decorated the tree. And then every night this week, Neil and I have chosen to give our undivided attention to sweet Emery before she goes to bed each night rather than getting the house in order for the holidays. I am not even going to think about the fact that I haven't done any Christmas shopping yet. I know that in time, it will all come together. Instead, I am trying to focus on spending time with Neil, Emery and our family and closest friends....

That being said, we did finally get the tree decorated!  Here are a few of my favorite pictures:

Our Christmas tree (presents under the tree to come soon!)

The nativity scene that was handmade by Pastor Mary, one of the program directors at Lutheridge.  This was part of our wedding gift from Pastors Mary and Tim and I love it!

Just a few of my favorite ornaments -- from L-R: Emery's first ornament, an ornament commemorating our first Christmas with Emery (given to us by my parents), one of my first Christmas ornaments from 1979, one of the unique Santa ornaments that we have on our tree, a pretty Palmetto tree glass ornament and one of the many ornaments that was given to us by my grandmother -- they are glass ornaments from the 1940's.

Enjoying the Month of December

Emery has had a fun weekend so far -- last night Aunt Kristen, Aunt Kelly and Uncle Brian came to visit.  This morning, she slept in until 7:30 am and then helped Daddy bake some Christmas goodies:

She also tried rice cereal for the first time.  I can't say how much of it she actually ate, but it did end up all over her face and her bib!  We'll keep trying and see how it goes over the next few days...

Lab Love

As you know, Riley (my first baby), is the best yellow lab in the world.  I have lots of friends that have labs too, and they too are having their first (human) babies.  So, I was so pleased to find a great shop on Etsy that features the cutest lab bibs.  I have ordered several for friends, and of course, Emery too. In fact, Riley gave Emery a cute bib with a yellow lab on it to welcome her into the family. Check out The Lab shop on Etsy for cute, handemade lab-friendly gear.  Riley loves it and I know you will too!

And, if you're looking for more cute baby gifts, check out Resa Design.  They are having a 12 Days of Christmas promotion and tomorrow their adorable burp clothes are only $5 each. I'm planning on ordering a few for sweet Emery and for her friends too.  They are bound to be the most stylish  babies in town!

Emery is Four Months Old!

Happy 4 month birthday, Emery!

Does life get any better than this?  I really can't imagine anything better than loving on our sweet baby girl.  Emery is four months old today and brings more and more joy to our lives every single day.  At four months, Emery is sleeping through the night, typically from 7:30 pm - 6:30 am.  She is smiling more and more and has begun to recognize the sound of Mommy and Daddy's faces and voices. One of my most favorite times of the day is when I go to get her from her crib each morning. I love greeting her and seeing her joyful expression! It is a look of happiness that I will forever keep in my heart.

Emery is not only noticing her parents more, but is also paying more attention to Riley.  She has begun to notice whenever Riley enters or leaves the room, and I imagine that they'll be playing together before we know it. Emery is becoming more observant of the world around her every single day -- and it is so neat to see the world from her perspective.

Today, I took Emery in for her four month appointment and she is doing so well.  We are so thankful that she is healthy and seems to have her health concerns behind her now.  She weighs 13 lbs 11.5 oz. and is 24.5 inches long and is in the 50th percentile for both weight and height. We love our little girl!
